What we Dubai residents have always known has been confirmed by a recent study – our city is one of the best places to live in the world! The annual World’s Best Cities rankings by Resonance Consultancy recently declared Dubai as the 6th best city to live and work in for 2024. With world-class food, outdoor experiences, family-friendly activities and incredible hotels, why wouldn’t it?
Our City of Gold has been named one of the leading cities behind London in first place (a spot they’ve held 9 years in a row), Paris, New York, Tokyo and Singapore. This report of 100 top cities is based on an assessment of over 270 metropolitan areas with a population of more than one million.
The World Best Cities measures each city’s performance based on 24 different categories such as walkability, outdoor green spaces, nightlife, restaurants, posts on Instagram, GDP per capita, etc. Dubai, of course, passed this analysis with flying colours and was declared the 6th best place to live, visit and invest.
What exactly makes Dubai one of the World’s Best Cities?
According to the report, Dubai is the ‘The Vegas of Arabia’ thanks to its rapid progress and development. The city’s penchant for breaking world records by building the largest, tallest, and most off-the-wall structures imaginable also gets a shoutout. Think Hatta Sign, Burj Khalifa and Palm-shaped islands. It’s one of the reasons why Dubai ranked #8 in the Attractions subcategory.
Additionally, a prosperity ranking of #4 reflects the city’s thriving hotel and hospitality industry with a special mention of iconic landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab leading the charge. Meanwhile, the report also highlights the 2040 Urban Masterplan that will transform DXB into an accessible city where 80% of a resident’s needs and destinations are within 20 minutes by foot or bike.

The UAE bagged another win with Abu Dhabi coming in at #25. Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh clocked the title of 28th best city in the world, while Doha, the capital of Qatar trailed close behind at #36. Kuwait’s Kuwait City bagged the 58th place.
