Haunted houses hold their own charm but in Dubai, you can upgrade to a Horror Cinema Room. Escape room company Nowayout offer a unique 4D horror movie experience at their Sheikh Zayed Road location and it is a nightmare come true. In a good way, of course. We think. Horror movies fans of gory slasher flicks and blood-curdling paranormal sagas are in for a (terrible) treat with this immersive horror movie experience that involves real-life jump scares that aim to make you jump out of your skin.
The terror levels of cult horror films such as IT, Ring, Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 will be dialed up a notch in these intimate movie rooms that seat just eight at a time. At just the right, suspenseful sequences in the movies professional actors in terrifying costumes and special effects such as splashes (not of blood, we hope) and flashes will leave you screaming.
This time around, the movement in the shadows between the aisles isn’t just in your imagination. It’s probably the vengeful long-haired ghost from the Ring. Or rather a very proficient actor dressed like her but you’d probably be unable to distinguish fact from fiction at that point of this hair-raising multi-sensory experience.
Expect chills down your spine long before the opening credits roll. Movie-goers are greeted by a crazy-eyed receptionist who’s not quite all there… And that’s just setting the tone for the rest of a freaky encounter whose singular goal is to see you leave the premises white-knuckled.
Buying popcorn here is probably a waste because you’re going to end up spilling it all every time you get startled, and if Horror Cinema Room’s website is to be believed, you’ll be thoroughly and properly spooked at every possible moment. “You will feel the storyline down to the smallest detail. We’re sure to make you shudder and feel the atmosphere to the fullest,” claims their website. *Shudder*
Currently, the venue offers two movie rooms – Movie Room 1 one resembles a living room gone to seed with cobwebs dangling off ceilings, eerie portraits gracing the walls and worn-out wallpaper.
Movie Room 2 is a creepy bedroom set up to look like a haunted hotel room. Convenient if you want to hide other the covers if things get too scary to handle, which it might as this second room boasts falling objects to add to the overall fear factor. Make sure to look for monsters under the bed.
Daredevils might come out looking flushed from the adrenalin high of the thrills and scares, ready for round two or cracking up at the fraidy cat friend who’s trembling and pale as a sheet. Either way, this one’s definitely not for those who leave the lights turned on (guilty) after a scary movie night. And chances of a horrific DEWA bill after visiting Horror Cinema Room are pretty high…
