DIFC is always teeming with activities and events, more so when winter makes the city outdoors-friendly again. But the one event that’s a standout on Dubai’s cultural calendars is the biannual DIFC Art Nights. Back for its winter edition of 2023, the two-day artistic showcase will play out in DIFC Gate Village’s galleries and streets on November 23 and 24.
This 16th edition’s theme is ‘Expressions for Sustainable Change’ and will see the event shine a light on artwork by local and international artists that focuses on sustainability, environmental consciousness and positive change. That it’s taking place right ahead of the UAE hosting COP28 on November 30, makes this a timely cultural soiree to attend.
What to look forward to at DIFC Art Nights
Emirati duo Saeed Almadani and Ahmad Alattar’s composition of dates exploring the connection between cultural heritage and technology is a top-runner. Another highlight is Kashir Mir’s calligraphy sculptures repurposed from “trash”, and also keep an eye out for a live demonstration of the Turkish marbling art Ebru by Daniela Waheed.
Music and performing arts more up your alley? Head to the Art Nights’ centre stage on November 23 to catch a performance by the students from the Centre of Musical Arts Senior Wind Ensemble. You can also soak up some intellectual artistic insights at the fireside chat with experts from Christie’s Middle East, 1000 Miglia and Sotheby’s about how auction houses can define the art world’s future.
Workshops and classes
While DIFC Art Nights officially winds down on November 24, a host of workshops are running at Gate Avenue’s Zone D until November 26. You can get your hands dirty learning to make pressed flower lanterns, make paintings from reusable bottles and also get your sustainable fashion fix at a fashion pop-up by concept store FLTRD.
From 6pm to 1pm on November 23 and November 24; entry is free. Free parking is available at Gate District 2. Visit the DIFC Art Nights website for more info.
