Dubai’s an everchanging city, no doubt. You could wake up one morning and a new mall has sprouted where there was nothing before. Or entire metro stations have changed names. So imagine our pleasant surprise when we found out the Palm Monorail turned pink one fine day!
The seats have turned pink, and so have the panelling and floor rugs. Usually decked up in gentle blues, this rosy redecoration is not some elaborate gender reveal ploy (phew!).
The secret behind the monorail’s pretty pink makeover is a takeover by cosmetics brand Rituals. To complete the illusion of being on a bullet train drifting through Tokyo, soaking in the sights of glorious cherry trees, the Palm Jumeirah monorail has been outfitted with automatic aroma diffusers that keep spritzing fresh Sakura fragrance throughout the train.
While a trip to Japan is an option for the upcoming Eid break, we’ll take this version of spring amidst our never-ending summer. The scenic railroad has been a nifty mode of transport to navigate the date palm-shaped island’s 5km stretch. It’s the closest you’ll come to enjoying some stunning aerial-ish views of The Palm’s many fronds.
The Palm Monorail is going to stay pink all this month, so check it out before the Sakura train leaves the station and springs back into its blue uniform.
