The longer Blondie takes to perform in the UAE, the harder Dubai goes by creating its own versions of Taylor Swift-themed events. Long story short, we’ve got two brilliant Taylor Swift experiences to look forward to in the next month.
The first is a Taylor Swift-themed dinner and the second is a tribute concert by Candlelight. Before you go red with anticipation, we’ll spill the details.
1. The ‘Tolerate It’ Supper
How often do you think of Taylor Swift’s lyrics and its poetry? The die-hard Swifties at Ninety Two events think about it more than men think about the Roman Empire. The beautiful minds who gave us the Lavender Night concert in August, as a consolation prize for the Eras Tour skipping the UAE, are now throwing a unique supper club-style dining experience inspired by Swift’s new single Tolerate It from her album Evermore. It’s taking place on September 30 at Mishkah in Al Quoz.
A carefully crafted poetic 8-course menu by Chef Khalid Eats will feed you dishes inspired by the lyrics of Tolerate It. We can’t reveal much but here’s a teaser: “I use my best colours for your Portrait” Summer Freekeh Salad garnished with purple edible daisies. There’s a main course steak dish in there too called ‘Tender Persistence’.
This, boys and girls, is the culinary version of an academic paper on Taylor Swift songs. Food aside, there’ll be a Gold Rush karaoke session, an Evermore Poetry Exhibition, a discussion of songs and a listening party. Time to party (and dine) like it’s 1989. Tickets from AED 700; book here
2. Candlelight: A Tribute to Taylor Swift
A month later on October 28, you’ll be enchanted by a Taylor Swift Tribute by Candlelight Concerts. Candlelight Concerts gets it that we’ve got tired of waiting, wondering if Taylor Swift will ever come around to the UAE. Instead of letting our faith in T-Swizzle fade, they’re treating us to a stunning 1-hour concert by a talented all-female string quartet.
The light of thousands of LED candles will illuminate the Majlis Al Salam Ballroom in Madinat Jumeirah’s Mina A’Salam Hotel. Meanwhile, instrumental versions of Miss Americana’s greatest hits will play in the background.
Country pop classics like Love Story, You Belong With Me, peppy pop and rock-infused Blank Space, I Knew You Were Trouble and Shake It Off will be performed. Newer chartbusters such as Anti-Hero, Snow on the Beach, and Cardigan are also part of the setlist. As a bonus, the musicians will let audiences sing along to a single song at the top of their lungs. Tickets from AED 150; Get your tickets here
