Dubai drivers can expect to deal with delays and diversions on vital and busiest roads around Dubai for the next few weeks. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued an advisory informing drivers of closures on the Dubai-Al Ain Road, Jumeirah Street and Emirates Road due to maintenance work.
1. Dubai Al-Ain Road closures
The Dubai-Al Ain road will be fully closed on weekends, from 1am to 10am. Thankfully, this full closure will only last 2 weeks starting August 9. Your commute on weekdays and peak traffic office hours won’t be affected.
However, that’s not the only section of the road that will closed off for maintenance and repair. In addition to the weekend closures, the RTA has warned motorists to also expect delays on the Dubai – Al Ain Road under the fifth intersection with Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road.
There will be diversions in both directions on weekdays from 10pm to 6am, due to bridge maintenance work. And this constriction will finish on September 9, 2024. So you might want to reconsider your commute time on this route
Alternate routes
Wondering what alternate routes will allow you easy access to and from the Garden City to Dubai? The RTA lists two options.
For those driving to Dubai from Al Ain, the recommended route is taking the free right exit onto Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road towards Hatta and make a U-turn at the first roundabout to towards Dubai.
Headed to Al Ain from Dubai? Then you should take the free right exit onto Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road towards Jebel Ali Port and make a U-turn at the first roundabout to get to Al Ain.
2. Jumeirah Street
Besides the Dubai-Al Ain road, Jumeirah Street is also undergoing renovation too all through August. Anticipate delays and traffic congestion due to maintenance work in two different spots on this arterial road on specific dates.
- Between Al Manara Street intersection and Al Thanya Street intersection in both directions: from August 17 to August 19, 2024.
- The area near Mercato in both directions, from August 24 to August 26, 2024.
These delays will be in place on weekends, staring from 2pm on Saturday until 5am on Monday.
3. Emirates Road closures
Don’t forget to add Emirates Road to your list. The E 611 is a vital express highway that connects the multiple emirates of the UAE, so you’ll want to factor in additional traffic and travel time to any inter-city trips you have planned.
Specific points of the highway you can expect delays on are the intersection of Hatta Road and Al Ain Road (Dubai to Abu Dhabi direction). The roadworks here will be ongoing until August 31, 2024.
The RTA has been posting public service announcements on X (formerly Twitter) to remind residents to plan trips in advance and factor in roadworks and related traffic. These maintenance works are undertaken to cut down travel times and ease up Dubai’s infamous traffic pile-ups.
