If the sight of a tuk-tuk in Dubai takes you by surprise on your next visit to Alserkal Avenue, you’re not dreaming. The cute little three-wheeler will be a permanent fixture at the Al Quoz arts and culture district until August.
Besides mentally transporting you to the alleys of Thailand or the streets of India – places that this iconic mode of transport is associated with – this autorickshaw also transports people for real. Instead of weaving and zipping through traffic, this particular tuk-tuk’s scope will be limited to the 500,000 sq ft expanse of Alserkal Avenue and its narrow pedestrian-friendly lanes.
The tuk-tuk ride is free for visitors
Acting like a private buggy or a Tuk-si (a play on tuk-tuk and taxi) as it’s called, this tiny three-seater vehicle’s sole purpose is to cart visitors from one store to the other within Alserkal Avenue. So they don’t have to walk in the heat. The best part – it’s an absolutely free service!
You will be tempted to brave the scorching sun and step out of the rickshaw for some fabulous pictures though. Keeping in line with Alserkal’s artistic aesthetic, the tuk-tuk is tricked out in colourful art that captures the breezy vacation vibes of a trip to Southeast Asia.
Booking Alserkal Avenue’s tuk-tuk in Dubai
It’s a simple three-step process to book the three-wheeler for yourself.
1. Call up Alserkal Avenue’s superstar hotline on 050 494 5434. One of their friendly drivers will answer the call and confirm the tuk-tuk’s availability.
2. Once you arrive at either of the 3 entrances at Alserkal Avenue, ring the hotline. The Tuk-si will splutter over to where you are.
3. Let the driver know which Alserkal Avenue store, restaurant, gallery or space you want to be dropped off at. When you’re ready to be picked up, call them again and you’ll be on your way to the next destination.
