Here’s something Dubai can brag about that other cities can’t – a music festival with a unique headliner: the world’s largest fountain dancing in rhythm to the hottest new tunes! That’s exactly what you’re in store for when RELM FEST kicks off next month from October 21-23 at The Pointe.
RELM, which is an acronym for ‘Recognizing Emerging Local Musicians’, is opening up a realm of entertainment we didn’t think possible. We’ve heard of backup dancers with fluid movements, but who knew a fluid backup dancing fountain was a possibility? Never say never in Dubai.
The brand new music festival is geared to be an extravagant 3-day event that will unveil new music from the Arab world’s rising musical talent against the backdrop of synchronized fountain shows. And that’s shows in plural – you’ll get to witness five new fountain shows, each with its own unique choreography set to the music of five different musicians who’ll take to the stage during the festival.
The lineup includes rising and established musical stars such as famous Emirati singer and songwriter Abri; French-Lebanese singer and performer Lea Makhoul; Palestinian singer and songwriter Noel Kharman; Iraqi-Belgian singer and songwriter, Sandra Sahi and Syrian composer, singer and Dubai’s first Qanun player Nagham Debal. The musicians will be performing live in tandem to the dancing water, debuting a medley of their newly released hits.
Besides The Palm Fountain’s aqua-tastic performances, RELM FEST will also feature top DJs from the region, special dining offers, and one-of-a-kind on-ground experiences, details of which haven’t been revealed yet. But we do know that bespoke video content and access to organised workshops are part of the festival programme. What is a sure-fire given is a stunning fireworks display to wrap up all the exciting events that will take place during the festival.
While RELM FEST has been conceptualised to be a platform for musicians from the region to reach a wider audience and give their budding careers a shot in the arm, there’s a second reason that’s driving it. RELM FEST is also a celebration of The Pointe’s second anniversary. After two years of belting out inventive shopping and dining concepts, the retail destination by Nakheel is foraying into serving up top-notch entertainment experiences with this creative musical event, which is set to happen every year.
