South America’s rainforests are quite a few airplane rides away. Luckily, we have Green Planet in City Walk – a living, breathing, indoor rainforest right in the heart of Dubai. Now with the return of their popular ‘Camping in the Rainforest’ experience, you can sleep in a mighty jungle surrounded by 3000 plants and animals. Every weekend until November 1, both young and old explorers can stay overnight in this tropical forest, guided by expert biologists. This year, there are added surprises – different themed activities for each month, and campers take home special badges and stickers as souvenirs after their night-long stint as Mowgli.
Camping in the Rainforest – encounters with real animals
During July, it’s all about the ‘Rainforest Rovers’ expedition. Campers will prowl around the forest with torchlight in hand and see Amazonian anacondas, cuddly bearcats, sloths and more up close during a guided scavenger hunt, nocturnal treks and interactive animal feeding sessions.
Come August, campers will huddle under the iconic Kapok tree to listen to tales of rainforest legends, craft jungle relics and artwork, as well as encounter colourful birds, porcupines and creepy-crawlies. All editions include delicious dinner, nature-themed movies and games for the family afterwards. You’ll also indulge in quintessential camping activities – roasting marshmallows over a campfire.
Once bellies and minds are full of food and wondrous nature facts, you can fall asleep in comfortable tents and hammocks to the sounds of cooing birds blanketed by a canopy of trees, followed by a nutritious buffet breakfast at the Green Planet Cafe.
This family-friendly after-hours experience is a perfect summer escape that’s wildly popular and books up quickly. To keep the experience cosy and quiet for the critters, only 25 guests per night are allowed. So make like Tarzan, swing into action and book!
