Cinema Akil’s Cine Mini program will run free family screenings every other weekend through the end of August at Alserkal Avenue. This month’s lineup draws on animated films from around the world, ranging from Academy Award winners to a Cannes 2025 Official Selection. Seven titles are scheduled across August, each chosen with children and their families in mind. Screenings take place on Saturdays and Sundays, twice a month, and cover a broad mix of stories – from tender coming-of-age narratives to high-energy comedies.
Free cinema in August in Dubai
The movie screenings will take place every Saturday and Sunday at 12 noon or 1PM sharp. Hosted in an indoor setting, it will be the perfect reprieve from the heat. And don’t even get us started on the stellar line-up. Make sure you book a seat before here.

August 1 & 8: Flow (2024)
The wordless, Academy Award-winning fable of a cat and a group of animals navigating a flooded post-human world.
August 2: Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (2025)
A Cannes 2025 Official Selection following a Belgian toddler growing up in Japan and discovering the world through childhood wonder.
August 9: Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo (2022)
A gentle animated journey following a young Syrian girl and her grandparents as they flee Aleppo and rebuild their lives.
August 15: Ponyo (2008)
Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved tale of a goldfish princess who befriends a human boy and dreams of becoming human.
August 16: The Tower (2018)
An award-winning animated drama following a Palestinian girl in a refugee camp who discovers her family’s history through stories passed down across generations.
August 22: Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017)
An animated comedy following Smurfette as she searches for her true purpose and stumbles upon a mysterious hidden village.
August 29: The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
A high-energy comedy set on Bird Island, following Red, a cynical outcast among relentlessly optimistic flightless birds. Additional titles may be added across the remainder of the season.
