The Emirates Rugby Sevens is one of the big events that pretty much everyone knows about in the city and it’s become a tradition to attend every year. With the 48th annual year coming up, let’s see what’s in store…
If rugby isn’t really your cup of tea, don’t worry because the three-day sporting competition has a lot more to offer than just watching games. The Rugby Sevens is the longest running sporting event in the region and welcomes people of all ages to join in on the experience. This year has a total of 340 rugby/netball teams that will compete against each other in four competitions (including HSBC’s own Rugby Sevens Series and the women’s league).
Now, for all the people who need a bit of convincing that the days aren’t all just about the sports, each night offers up quality entertainment such as live music, food, drinks and DJs. Good news is the first day admission is free for everyone and kiddos under 12 are free to enter the whole weekend. They’ll also be able to amuse themselves with the several trampolines, circus-themed activities, bouncy castles and face-painting (the ultimate favourite).
The grown-ups have tons of things to keep them busy as well, like dancing along to the live music from bands/DJs. Make sure you check out the Green Room for the creme de la creme of music, including tributes to Queen and Oasis… talk about a throwback! Oh, and of course we saved the best news for last, Britney Spears the icon of pop music herself will be performing live! Forget the rugby, we’re going for Britney.
