Fans of Indian and Pakistani music, we hope you’re sitting down for this news. The line-up for Coke Studio Live Dubai has been revealed and it’s a dream come true. Singers Ali Sethi and Shae Gill of the viral hit ‘Pasoori’ will be performing at Coca-Cola Arena on October 14.
When the popular concert series was announced to make its UAE debut in July, details about the performers weren’t revealed but expectations were high. However, Coca-Cola Arena have now revealed the roster for the concert and it surpasses all expectations. Other artists performing include Hasan Raheem and Justin Bibis of ‘Peechay Hutt’ fame, Faisal Kapadia from the legendary band Strings, hip-hop duo Young Stunners and alternative rock band Karakoram.
Coke Studio, is a global television music series that’s especially beloved in South Asia. The programme sees both established and upcoming artists of all genres perform in closed studio-recorded sessions. Originally conceptualised in Pakistan, the show’s popularity spread like wildfire and now has Indian, Bangladeshi, Arabic and Filipino versions as well.
So widespread is Coke Studio Pakistan’s popularity, that it has lasted 14 seasons and racked up more than 4 billion views online.
The music show is known to have launched the careers of singers and little-known bands and provides a platform for traditional musicians and folk music performers who are hidden talents break into mainstream music industry.
Of its many success, the most recent one is ‘Pasoori’, a Punjabi-Urdu song that’s been capturing the hearts and ears of music lovers across borders and skyrocketed its singers Ali Sethi and Shae Gill to instant fame. It’s clocked 300 million views on YouTube.
Fans can expect to hear them play the haunting beautiful chart-topper live when on October 14 at the Coke Studio Live Dubai concert.
