Remember the days when fries were just strips of potato, fried crispy golden and served as a side. And the only choice you had to make was to dip them in ketchup or mayo. Or if you wanted them thin-cut or the wider British-style chips No? We can’t either. The variety of seriously pimped-out loaded fries in Dubai have erased any memory we have of the humble spud.
Call ‘em fries, chips, wedges, it’s all a heavenly carb overload waiting to be shoveled down greedy mouths. Maybe with both hands (don’t judge us). These finger-lickin’ good are no sideshow snacks, they’re a whole darn meal!
1. Kito Fries at Babu
Someday, we’ll tell you more about this whimsical Khaleeji-Indian eatery that’s a find itself but until then read about their signature fries. These are the fries that make you glad you’re single. Because who want’s to share a tumbling mess of pasta, Cheetos, stringy cheese, crunchy potato chips and fries with anyone? Not Joey Tribbiani and definitely not us.

2. Holy Grail at She Burger
Sheikha Eissa’s homegrown burger outlet has a zealous following. It has Sheikh Hamadan’s patronage. But the juicy patties are given tough competition by their variety of off-the-wall loaded fries that are a hot mess of yumminess – truffle fries, messy fries. We’ve picked the aptly named Holy Grail, fried potato tower drenched in lashings of gooey cheddar, bacon shavings, jalapeno and beetroot. It’s the ultimate find for spud heads everywhere. Before you have a go at us saying ‘this is a loaded fries list’ we have two words for you: potato potahto 💁♀️

3. Volcano Fries at Nomad
A pot of these fries are what we want to find at the other end of a rainbow. The explosive flavours are to-die-for. Volcano Fries come in supersized portions of chicken, molten cheese, and Cheetos chips. And they’re famously hard to polish off alone. But we take that as a challenge not a warning. Death by fries isn’t a bad way to go now, is it?

4. Logma Fries at Logma
Please sanitse your hands thoroughly before you dive into these because a lot of finger-licking is in your future. Seasoned with a special savoury seasoning of Khaleeji spices that’s so addictive, you’ll keep eating and the passage of time will make no difference anymore. The sun will set, the moon will rise, seasons will change but you’ll stay rooted held in place by the magic of secret seasoning that this modern Emirati restaurant sprinkles over crispy fries. When you come back to reality, there might be hundreds of empty fries boxes scattered around your table.

5. Tun Tun Maggi Fries at That Place
Bollywood fans might get the pop-culture reference this Karama cafe is making with their ginormous plate of fries – Tun Tun was Hindi cinema’s first-ever comedienne and one of the few plus-sized women to grace Indian cinema screens in the 60s and 70s. Anyhoo, back to these fries that are tossed in spicy masalas and then weighed down by an entire instant noodle cake of Maggi Arabia and cheese sauce. Yum. Why have we been choosing between comfort foods when we could have just mixed them together? Our life has been a lie until now.
📍Location: Behind Park Regis Hotel – 2B Street Al Karama
6. Smoky Jar Fries at Falla
Here’s what happens at this fusion restaurant in La Mer. A skull-shaped jar is filled to the brim with fries, beef, Monterey and cheddar cheese, and spicy caramel sauce… wait, what? Yeah, that last bit made us stop in our tracks too but these fries have a rabid fanbase and we’re firm believers in the majority vote. With some dry ice action creating the eponymous dramatic effect, this one’s a smokeshow that delivers the goods.
